Day 9: Create a Map as a Class
Objectives:
MATERIALS
Teacher: Chart Paper
Students: Folders
Lesson:
Differentiation:
For struggling students: Partner up with one sheet of paper to come up with ideas to incorporate in map
For advanced students: Ask them to go a step further and map how to get from the classroom to the lunch room.
Assessment: Verify that each student has added something to the class map, check off names or come together as a group in a circle on the rug and their answer is their exit slip back to their seat.

Objectives:
- Use map skills to create a map of the school from the bus loop to their classroom
MATERIALS
Teacher: Chart Paper
Students: Folders
Lesson:
- Ask students to take out their folders
- Review key terms
- Ask students to make sure their notebook with clean paper is in their folder
- Ask students to follow you out to the bus loop
- Advise students that you are going to, as a class, make a map showing the area from the bus loop to their classroom
- Advise each student to take notes/draw pictures so that they can accurately create it when they get back to their classroom
- Model things like "Now what direction are we turning"
- "There is our garden, should we create a symbol to represent that on our map?"
- When you get back to the classroom, compile everyone's notes on a piece of chart paper
- Set that to the side
- Begin creating the map
- Conclude by reviewing the map and ensuring cardinal directions, compass rose, symbols and map legend/map key are represented
